Information to Parents Using Bus Transportation

From time-to-time it is useful to review basic rules for cooperation and safe travel by the
school bus. We ask that parents review these rules with your children at the start of the
school year, and periodically thereafter. They are intended to contribute to the safety
and the wellbeing of all passengers.
BUS RULES AND BUS STOP INFORMATION
1. Student Safety
Safety on the school buses and at the bus stops is a major priority. Parents are
encouraged to monitor student behavior going to and returning from the bus stops and at the bus stop location. Student’s behavior on the bus that endangers others will not be tolerated. Riding the bus is considered a privilege and considered an extension of the school day. Principals stress to students that they are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at all times and that failure to do so going to and from school may result in disciplinary action described in the student handbook.
All carry-on items (i.e. book bags, backpacks, etc) should be held on laps or placed under the seat. Carry-on items must not take a seat required for another student.
On occasion, a student may ride a different bus and be dropped off at a different bus stop. This requires a transportation change notice called in or a note sent with the student to the office of that school.
Students are expected to observe the following rules:
a. All riders shall remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop
b. All riders, do not approach the bus until the bus is completely stopped and the
stop sign has been engaged
c. All riders shall keep head, hands and arms inside the bus at all times.
d. Each rider shall remain in the bus assigned to him/her by the bus driver/bus
aide or principal.
e. Scuffling and fighting are not covered by the school insurance in case of injury
f. Profane and or obscene language will not be tolerated
g. Bus riders will not litter the bus with food or other debris. No articles of trash
should be thrown either inside or outside of the school bus
h. The rider or their parents will pay for any damages to the bus other than
regular usage
i. Pupils must be at their bus stop at the scheduled time both mornings and
afternoons. The bus has a schedule and cannot wait
j. Pupils shall follow recommended safety procedures when crossing streets and
roadways. Make sure they look both ways before crossing and that the driver
has signaled it is ok to cross.
k. Pupils and or parents should inform the driver if possible when they will not be
riding the bus
l. Pupils shall cooperate with the driver and bus aide at all times.
m. The bus driver shall report any misconduct to the principal
n. The bus driver is in complete control at all times
o. Parents shall be notified by the principal and or the assistant principal of any
misconduct on the bus.
p. Any person that verbally threatens to do bodily harm to the bus driver can be
found guilty of a Class One Misdemeanor
q. Parents or guardians are not allowed on the bus at any time
r. Cell phones are not allowed to be used on the bus unless there is an emergency. Phones should be placed in the student’s book bag.
BUS STOP RESPONSIBILITIES OF PRE-SCHOOL AND KLING ELEMENTARY’S
PARENTS
Parents or another responsible person must meet all Kling Elementary school students at the bus stop. We must see them at the bus stop. If no one is available, the child will be taken to the bus lot and the parent will be contacted to pick up the child there. Bus lot
